Drug induced liver injury (DILI) can be caused by a wide range of medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and even herbal supplements.  The mechanism of DILI can vary depending on the drug involved.  Some drugs cause direct hepatotoxicity, while others may cause an immune-mediated reaction or metabolic idiosyncrasy.  In recent years, the use of herbal products in the United States has been steadily increasing, reflecting a growing interest in natural and alternative remedies.  Given this context, Doctor Beena Ahsan will share her experience with cases of DILI within the scope of her active practice in hepatology service at Henry Ford Hospital.
